Riverbend Guest House is owned and managed by Alan and Lynne Hawkins and has been operating for some ten years. After seeing four children grow up and leave for various exciting and alluring destinations, the large house situated on the cliffs of the Nahoon River seemed to become more empty by the day. Why waste the lovely space?

After starting out with only one room, we found that we quite enjoyed the many visitors who, over the years, have become friends. This is what Riverbend is all about! We thoroughly enjoy being hosts to, and meeting our many visitors from far and wide, offering our guests an opportunity to enjoy this wonderful location and our stunning views of the Indian Ocean and the Nahoon River.

In 2014 we extended the guest facilities from four to six rooms and built up the dedicated dining room and made some significant improvements. We are now proud to be an accredited four-star guest house and to be known as one of the finest accommodation establishments in East London.

“A little different” is our motto and is also exactly what we strive to achieve. Our rooms are indeed a little different, with a special touch of uncluttered classical class. Then there are the Bonsai trees that adorn the walkways and of course a breakfast that is difficult to beat. “It’s the little things that matter” says Lynne who makes it her business to add that extra something. Whether you’re one of our many loyal and regular business visitors or a new guest, you’re sure to visit again and again. Venues like ours are uncommon in East London, despite being a coastal town, views are often blocked by the coastal dunes. We’re able to offer a little luxury combined with the views, and, in combination, the recipe is flawless.

From our freshly roasted coffee (we are also owners of the East London Coffee Company) to our special breakfasts, the pure cotton linen and our spotlessly clean rooms, if you expect “a little different” in the best possible way, you are sure to enjoy our hospitality from the moment you arrive until the moment you leave.
